Finding The Right Fit
There was a moment in St. Louis in which a lot of camera prep happened in apartments, basements, warehouses and garages. Most of a prep day would be spent running around town, picking up gear from various vendors and independent owner/ops. On top of that, there weren’t a lot of choices for lenses or specialty camera equipment, which was a bummer for me, personally, as a DP. I was often bringing in lenses and accoutrements from LA or other large markets, and often spending as much to ship the gear as to rent it. My frustrations were shared by other local DPs and set technicians, it seemed that there was indeed a need unfulfilled. The first lens set purchase was a toe dipped into the pond. As those lenses began to generate some revenue, it was socked away to save for the next set. That marked the beginning of a snowball effect that culminated in Horizon opening its brick-and-mortar doors in 2022. Since then the focus [sic] has been on trying to intelligently grow the inventory to serve the local needs, wants, and aspirations while striving to maintain a high standard of service and support.
