P+S Technik Kowa Evolution Anamorphic 2x
This was the set that started it all. I was renting Kowas a lot for a few years— vintage sets mostly, some rehoused, some not. I was very intrigued when P+S Technik decided to take the rehousing to the next level and actually re-issue the original Kowa anamorphic designs as the Kowa Evolution 2X primes. If you pixel peep, I'm sure you can tease out some minor differences, but set-to-set consistency seems way better with the Evos, and the modern cam-driven mechanics are leaps and bounds better than the vintage housings. These definitely have some character, vintage softness and contrast, beautiful purple-infused streaky flares, and significant focus fall-off are some of the notables. Their compact size is unmatched with vintage anamorphics.
