Zeiss Super Speed Primes
These are some classics, no doubt. Originally introduced in the 1980s, the Zeiss High Speed Primes, now colloquially known as Super Speeds have been favorites of heavy-hitting directors and DPs since their introduction to the market. Tending on the cool and gritty side, these lenses do get a bit dreamy when shot wide open, but are tack sharp when stopped down a bit. Super Speeds have been the lenses of choice on some bangers: Godfather Part 2, Taxi Driver, True Lies, Mid90s, Chasing Amy, Raging Bull, Good Times, are some faves among dozens of others. These are old school helicoid focusing lenses, which means the front ends telescope a bit when focusing, use caution with clip-on matte boxes.
